Rod Stewart has revealed that his first marriage in 1979 to wife Alana failed because he had ‘too much living, partying, drinking and sh**ging to do’.

Speaking in a new interview, the iconic musician, 76, explained his father had warned him that he was too young [34] to tie the knot.

Upon reflection, Rod admitted his father was right, noting that ‘even though he thought he was ready, he wasn’t’.

Rod told People magazine: ‘When I told my dad I was getting married, he said, ”You’re far too young.” He was right. I still had a lot of living, partying, drinking and sh**ging to do.’

Rod and Alana’s marriage lasted six years. Rod wed for a second time when he was 45, exchanging vows with model Rachel Hunter in 1990.

Rod and Rachel’s marriage lasted nine years, and of their time together, Rod told the outlet: ‘When I got married a second time to Rachel, I really thought she was the one — but I got that wrong.’

Rod met his current wife – and love of his life – Penny Lancaster just days after he and Rachel called it quits and they have been happily married since 2006.
